problem with cascading parameters after CTP2

In the standard report manager I'm running a report with 5 parameter choices. The first 3 are determinants of the 4th, and the combined 1-4 determine the 5th.

Although this works fine in my VS BIDS (sp1) with SQL 2005 sp2 CTP, when I deploy it to my sp2 CTP Report server, it throws an error as soon as I select the 3rd parameter.

One or more data sources is missing credentials

I found this answer from MS in another thread (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=923684&SiteID=1) and since it deals with my problem, wanted to pass it along to anyone else that is dealing with this problem.

" This is a known regression with CTP2 that will be fixed before SP2 is released. The problem is not specific to multivalue parameters. It has to do with dependencies between parameters.

In some cases, you can work around the issue if you give the dependent parameter a default value. You can also work around the issue by removing the valid values dependency between the parameters, though this may not be possible for a given report."

The suggested workaround does work! I can get beyond the 3rd parameter now because I applied a default value!

The workaround is useless. It only alleviated the problem when I stayed with that default value for my 3rd parameter. As soon as I changed it I'm right back to the 'one or more data sources is missing credentials'

SP2 cannot be soon enough...

|||

The workaround suggested can work, but it's tricky, especially with nested parameters that are dependent on each other. I finally got a six parameter functional again but with some pain. I made all the dependent parameter lists 'multi-select' and gave them a functional default value. Only then do they populate correctly.

And this all because I was hoping to use these reports in WSS 3.0 with the report server addin. Got very close and now have stumbled across similar bug with multiple parameters in Sharepoint. Will post entry to Sharepoint forums.

On the client. And "d:\" is a local drive (in my machine). With
others columns it worked OK.
Thanks

Please check to see if there is a carriage return at the
end of your format file and that there are no extra tabs
or anything else in it. Also be sure the format file
is not open in an editor when you run the command.
The error message mentions the format file, not the
data file, so I think the problem is with the format file.

Things like : cr (carriage return), opened format file and others wrongs
caracters inside of format file are not the problem. I am thankful for yours
suggestions,but the problem continue. Now I substituted the third column of
my output file and the bcp utility started the copy, but the generated file
has mixed data with stranger caracters. This new column has valids datas and
also null values in some registers and it is the great difference between th
e
others columns (first e second ones). Without this third column everything
work 100% OK. I already try to change the value of prefix length (field of
the format file) to -1 or 2 with the hope to solve it, but the output
generated file continue with stranger and mixed caracters (like ASCII
caracters). I really don't have any idea of what I can do to put it to work.
I am not sure, but perhaps I will need to make other configuration in my
format file, but exactly what ? Do you have other help for me ?
Thanks again

I am not sure what the problem is, but here are three separate
suggestions.
1. Try to use bcp without a format file, since TAB and NEWLINE
are the defaults for bcp. If this creates a Unicode file, you will need
to change the format file to say SQLNCHAR instead of SQLCHAR,
and you will also need to put the Unicode two-byte signature into
the beginning of the file yourself, since bcp does not do this for you.
2. Be sure the format file is saved as ASCII, not Unicode, then try
again with the format file.
3. Verify the data lengths and types of the output,
3A. Run this and provide the output.
select top 1
numeroaj, acervoespecializada
into CheckTypesTable
from Siga.dbo.vwHerancaJacente
select * from CheckTypesTable
3B. In Query Analyzer, refresh the current database
and for [CheckTypesTable] choose "Script Table To
New Window" to verify the data types of these columns
and provide the output.
3C. After doing this, you can DROP the table CheckTypesTable.
It might help if you post the definition of Siga.dbo.vwHerancaJa.
(If it is a view, also post CREATE TABLE statements from the
tables it uses for the columns numeroaj and acervoespecializada
(and the third column, since at one point you mention three columns.
Also, when you have three columns, what is your query?)

Forgive me for delay in my reply. I was very busy. Let 's go. Really
you are correct. When I ran the bcp utility in the prompt without my format
file, it show the message explaining that happened a truncate. In true there
was a difference between the data length of one column and your value define
d
for this size in the format file. Summarizing, the problem is over and your
suggesntions 1 and 3 were very helpful.

Problem with attaching database

I try to attach a db by running the following command:

EXEC sp_attach_single_file_db @.dbname = 'test',

@.physname = 'C:\Documents and Settings\renee.wilson\My Documents\PD DD 2.nvp'

But I get the following error message:

File activation failure. The physical file name "C:\Documents and Settings\renee.wilson\My Documents\PD DD 2_log.LDF" may be incorrect.

The log cannot be rebuilt because the database was not cleanly shut down.

It looks like that the db was not detached from the server properly. I know that .LDF file does not exist, therefore, I was hoping by running the sp_attach_single_file_db, a new .LDF file can be created.

Any body has any idea on how to fix the problem? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

one last chance left, here are some instructions for the crashd database:

http://groups.google.de/group/microsoft.public.sqlserver.server/browse_frm/thread/f584b644548cd68f

HTH, Jens Suessmeyer.

Thanks, Jens.

But, I tried both suggestions in

http://groups.google.de/group/microsoft.public.sqlserver.server/browse_frm/thread/f584b644548cd68f

without much luck.

I am having the following problems:

1. DBCC rebuilt_log does not exist in SQL Server 2005 Express which I am using.

2. When the database is in emergency mode, which I can see via the tool(Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express) I am using, I can not view any of its object, for example, I click on Tables(try to see the tables), I get error msg: Could not continue scan with NOLOCK due to data movement, (Microsoft SQL Server, Error:601). For the same reason, I can not generate scripts as suggested.

Any further suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Problem with ASP - ODBC - SQL Server after moving to Windows 2003 Server

Hello,
We are setting up a backup server for one of our Web sites, and the current
machine is running Win 2K Server, the new one Win 2003 Server. Otherwise
everything else is the same.
Most everthing works fine, except for one ASP template, which is opening a
recordset with this line:
set RS = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") rs.Open "DealerInfo",
Conn,adOpenKeyset,adLockOptimistic,adcmdtable
On the 2003 server it gives an error:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '800401f3'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Cursor type changed
I have searched for information about thids error, but not found any so far.
Any help would be appreciated.
Ragnar
I have determined that this is not really an error message, but an
informational message. It seems pretty clear that the real error lies
somewhere else, so I will have to come up with a way to add some debug
statements without stopping the code.

Problem with ampersand "&"

I’m using XQUERY to slog through an XML doc, and dump the value of a CDATA
element into an NVARCHAR(MAX) field. The problem I’m running into is that
when an ampersand goes into that field, what I get back out in a query (using
FOR XML) is “&”.
using:
CONVERT( nvarchar(MAX), T.c.query('data(Value)') )
The above stores a “&” in the field, even though the input was:
<![CDATA[&]>
Any insight is much appreciated.
Looks like my above post got mangled.
The value it stores is: "&"
And the value I get back is: "&"

This double escaping often happens when the source is already escaped but
marked as plain text, e.g. in a CDATA section. Can you show an example of
the source?

The XMLRW parser seems to be discarding the CDATA markup around the value
when storing nodes like this. What Rob is storing is something like '<Value><![CDATA[&]]></Value>'.
In SQL Server 2005, at serialization time, all element text-nodes are entitized.
This seems to superceed what the spec seems to indicate should be done with
CDATA at parse time.

sorry for the late reply.
But you should never extract values from an XML document using
CONVERT(nvarchar(MAX), T.c.query('data(Value)'))
use
T.c.value('Value', 'nvarchar(MAX)') instead. That should take care of your
encoding issue.

Problem with Alter table disable trigger all

Hi,

I am replicating few production databases and I am running into a problem with "Alter table tblname disable trigger all". I get the following error: Cannot alter the table 'tblname' because it is being published for replication. I am aware that when you want to add or drop a column, you need to use some system stored procedures to do so. But how can I disable the triggers before running some queries/statement on a table that is being published to a subscriber?

I really apreciate you help,

Regards,

SasIt seems you have to use sp_dropsubscription and then sp_droparticle to discontinue replication of the table, do you alter, then use sp_addarticle and sp_addsubscription to add continue replication. If there is an easier way, I'd be interested to know as well.

http://www.databasejournal.com/features/mssql/article.php/1477441|||UPDATE sysobjects SET replinfo=0 WHERE xtype='U' AND name='YOUR TABLE'
It would disable the table in the publication.
When u r done with ur work, Add the table back into Publication through Enterprise-Manager.
However sometimes it goes messed-up and SQL doesn't allow to add the table back into publication. In that case u may need to reinialize the subscriptions followed by the SNAPSHOT.

Regards!!

Problem with Agent on 2000 server - jobs hanging

I have a server that had SQL agent working on it, and running scheduled
jobs on set interval forever. Windows Server 2003, SQL 2000, most
current service packs on both.
I installed an instance of SQL 2005 on this server.
Now, when I look at Enterprise Manager & try to see what's happening
with the jobs, I see that the jobs are sitting out there & will kick off
when they are supposed to run, or I can kick them off manually.
However, now, they will run to certain steps in a job, and it will just
"hang". The jobs that hang are the ones that are running DTS jobs:
DTSRun /~Z0xC9C........
These particular jobs haven't been changed in months, and were running
fine until the install of SQL 2005 on this server.
Any idea what's happening or how to fix it?
It may be a locking. You can really easy to detect in Current Activity
window, processes view, last two fields if you scroll to the right, 'blocked
by" and "blocking" columns.

Problem with 64-bit ODBC code and SQLConnect and SQLWCHAR

Hi all,
I'm trying to test some 64-bit ODBC stuff and I'm running into a slight
problem. First, my configuration.
Windows XP x64
VS.Net 2005 Beta 2
SQL Server 2005 CTP
So, I have built and tested other 64 bit apps so I know that things are all
working, but now I'm trying to test ODBC and I'm running into a problem. I
have the following code :
SQLCHAR Database[MAXBUFLEN]; // = "Cloud";
SQLCHAR User[MAXBUFLEN]; // = "fred";
SQLCHAR Pass[MAXBUFLEN]; // = "me";
sprintf ((char *)Database, "%s", "Cloud");
sprintf ((char *)User, "%s", "fred");
sprintf ((char *)Pass, "%s", "me");
retcode = SQLConnect(hdbc1, Database, SQL_NTS,
User, SQL_NTS, Pass, SQL_NTS);
If I execute this code as part of a little test program on my 32 bit box, it
connects just fine. Now, to get this code to compile on the 64-bit box, I
have to cast the string variable with (SQLWCHAR *) like this.
retcode = SQLConnect(hdbc1, (SQLWCHAR *)Database, SQL_NTS,
(SQLWCHAR *)User, SQL_NTS, (SQLWCHAR *)Pass, SQL_NTS);
So it compiles, but when I run it, I get an error back. If I take a look
at what (SQLWCHAR *)Database produces, its some unreadable junk. If I turn
on ODBC logging and then after the SQLConnect call take a look at the log,
where I should see the database for instance, I see just random characters.
So, what gives ? Do I have to do something special when working with
SQLWCHAR ?
Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

SQLCHAR Database[MAXBUFLEN]; // = "Cloud";
SQLCHAR User[MAXBUFLEN]; // = "fred";
SQLCHAR Pass[MAXBUFLEN]; // = "me";
sprintf ((char *)Database, "%s", "Cloud");
sprintf ((char *)User, "%s", "fred");
sprintf ((char *)Pass, "%s", "me");
retcode = SQLConnect(hdbc1, Database, SQL_NTS,
User, SQL_NTS, Pass, SQL_NTS);
If I execute this code as part of a little test program on my 32 bit box, it
connects just fine. Now, to get this code to compile on the 64-bit box, I
have to cast the string variable with (SQLWCHAR *) like this.
retcode = SQLConnect(hdbc1, (SQLWCHAR *)Database, SQL_NTS,
(SQLWCHAR *)User, SQL_NTS, (SQLWCHAR *)Pass, SQL_NTS);
Do I have to do something special when working with
SQLWCHAR ?
Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

problem when trying to query on datetime field

Hello All ,
my name is ron ,
i have the following problem:
when i running the query on my Sql server Database:
SELECT AVG(VOLUME) AS AvgVolume
FROM STOCKS_VOLUME
WHERE (SYMBOL = 'AUDC') AND (QUOTE_DATE >= '23/12/2003')
i get an error:
The conversion of char data type to a dattime data type resulted in an
out-of-ranged datetime value .
what is wrong with my query does anyone have any idea how to solve this ?
thanksUse a safe and language neutral datetime format for your datetime literal. I
prefer the unseparated format:
'yyyymmdd'

problem when running "configuration web synchronization"

Hi, there;
We have device using sqlce2.0 and replicate data with sql2000.

Now we have new WM5 device which uses SqlCe3.0. So I need to install connectivity tools
using "SqlCe30setupen.msi".

I got error when I run "Configure Web Synchronization Wizard": The operation completed successfully. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070000) (mscorlib).

When I run this wizard, I logged in the server as "Administrator" and point to the existing snapshot folder which is used by sqlce2.0.

Can anybody advise what cause the problem? Can I install it in the same virtual directory as the current one where the sqlce2.0 sits in?

Big thanks here.

You should install in a new virtual folder.|||Thanks, Erik;
Yes, I tried to install it new virtual folder. But I have this error.

Another question is that which user should I use to install it?

Cheers|||

Hey Qiuwei,

You should install Server Tools MSI in admin account. Also note that ConnWiz that is installed by this MSI, should be run under network user who is into administrators group of the box. Please use a different Virtual Directory for 2.0 and 3.0.

Thanks,

Laxmi

|||Yes. Thank you.
I did that. And I have to add user "IUSR_machineName"(with some permission) to that folder to make it work.

Problem when Connection is not available

Hello!

I have problem when opening a package or running it through SQL Server Agent and the Server in the Connection is not available. (I have tried with (M) SSIS > Work Offline, it helps opening it, but not running it).

The package has a Foreach Loop Container that loop through several Companies. Each Company have different Connection.

It exist one ODBC and one OLEDB connection. They have the Expression “ConnectionString” set to an variable (@.[User::varODBCConnectionString]/ @.[User::varOLEDBConnectionString]).

The Foreach Loop Container property ForceExectionResult is set to Completion. This results in that if one company is not available when trying to access it, the loop will continue with the next Company.

But the variables have a value from the beginning. If the server in the variables is not available, it is not possible to open the package or execute it through SQL Server Agent.

I tried to set the Property DelayValidation to True on the Connections, but this did not help.

Dose anyone have any ide how get around this problem?

Best regards,

Tina

Hi Tina,

You need to set DelayValidation=TRUE on the tasks that use those connection managers, not on the connection managers themselves.

Regards

Jamie

Hello Jamie!

Thank you very much, it works now, bouth SQL Server Agent and in SSIS. (I also need to set Delay Validation = TRUE for att least the ODBC connection.).

Best regards,

Tina

Problem when connecting to a named sql 2000 instance

Hi,
I have a problem when connecting to a named sql 2000 instance . The instance
is running in a 2 node cluster configuration. The second instance on the
other node works fine.
When I try to connect with a client on another pc, the connection only works
when I set the correct (static) port number.
But if I leave it to dynamically determine ports it is not able to connect.
There is no firewall between the client pc and the database server
and udp port 1434 is listening.
Stranger is that this problem also occurs on the server itself. When i
connect to the servernode where the instance of sql is running,
i have to set an alias with the portnumber to be able to connect to the
instance. Without this the connection fails.
Anybody any idea(s)?
Regards,
CihatUnfortunately no response. Here my response so that others with same problem
maybe solve it more quickly. When this happens and all checks appear okey,
you have to failover the group and reboot the server where this problem
occur. After the reboot it worked fine for me. Still dont know the cause, bu
t
it works now.

Problem when accessing RS using fully qualified name or IP.

Hi,
I am using Reporting Services 2000 running on Win2k3. I have admin rights
for this machine.
Everything works just great if I am accessing Reporting services in our
intranet using http://server1/reports or http://server1/reportserver
But, When I view reports using fully qualified name e.g.
http://server1.mydomain.com/reports after entering username/password it shows
first page and when I click on any report item I get "The page cannot be
displayed" in the bottom frame.
Weird thing is if I access reports using
http://server1.mydomain.com/reportserver (simple file browse view) instead
of http://server1.mydomain.com/reports everything works fine.
Here is what I have tried after reading several posts.
I edited RSWebApplication.config located at
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting Services\ReportManager\
Old setting:
<ReportServerUrl>http://server1/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl>
New Setting:
<ReportServerUrl>http://server1.mydomain.com/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl>
When I apply the above setting I get the following error on the very first
page.
"The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized. "
I also edited RSReportServer.config located under \ReportServer folder but
still same error.
"The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized. "
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thx!

A Powerful Knowledge Sharing PlatformHelloooo guys, I found the solution.
After reading MSDN I found that <ReportServerExternalUrl> tag must be added
to use FQDN so you can access RS over internet. Report manager will use this
URL to redirect to the report server.
Modify the RSWebApplication.Config file located under \ReportManager folder
as below
e.g.
<UI>
<ReportServerUrl>http://server1/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl>
<ReportServerExternalUrl>http://server1.mydomain.com/ReportServer</ReportServerExternalUrl>
</UI>
Correction to MSDN statement.
====================MSDN has half way correct information. MSDN states <ReportServerURL> must be
added but it has to be <ReportServerUrl> instead <ReportServerURL> (Note:
XML is case sensitive).
If you enter <ReportServerURL> instead <ReportServerUrl> you will get the
following error.
"The configuration file contains an element that is not valid. The
ReportServerExternalURL element is not a configuration file element."

Problem Warming Cache (Fails to Run MDX Statement)

Hello all – I’m running into an issue that has me a little stuck and I was hoping to get your advice.I have an SSIS package which runs after my dimension / cube processing that iterates through a relational table containing MDX statements (from several key reports) and executes them to warm the cache.

This has been a very successful strategy for me until the recent addition of a MDX statement that absolutely refuses to be executed via SSIS using the ADO.NET connection type / MSOLAP.3 provider.This MDX statement will run fine in Management Studio as well as from the report.To make matters worse, if I run the MDX statement from the report or from Management Studio, the SSIS package will not fail on this particular statement.It only fails if the cache is cold:

{SQL Server Analysis Services 9.0 build 3042 (SP2)}

Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.

I’m sure I’m missing something obvious, but whatever it may be is successfully stumping me.I appreciate any help or advice you can provide!

I figured it out; thought I would share it with all in-case you run across a similar scenario (I know when I was searching for this problem I found very little out there in the way of help):

When I ran profiler against the SSAS instance I noticed that it was trying to resolve the offending MDX statement into T-SQL statements (like you would expect to see in ROLAP storage) but it was attempting to PREPARE them against the SSAS instance, which of course would never work.

After some investigation I found that one of the partitions on the cube had been set to ROLAP and was causing the issue. After converting to MOLAP and deploying / processing, the issue went away and now my cache warming SSIS package is successful.

I would argue that this is a bug since the provider from SSIS is trying to prepare the T-SQL statements for a ROLAP cube against SSAS, but the same behavior isn't experienced in SSMS / SSRS.
