Problem with authentication prompting whilst fetching a report over the NET

Hi all,
I'm having a problem with accessing a report.
When I test it on my machine (2000 & reporting services installed on same
machine) there's no problem. As soon as I try to access it vie the internet
(I route through no-ip.org) then a window pops up wanting authentication. I
want to do away with this please.
How do I do this so no prompting occurs?

John.The authentication for a data source can be different for the dev env than
the production env... Go to the data source in the Prod env, and ensure
that something OTHER than prompt for credentials is set for the data
source...

Problem with AS data source

I've successfully created a data source and reports against an Analysis
Services database.
The AS database is on the same machine as RS (let's call this Server
1).
I tried this against a second AS database (on Server 2), and it works
fine from Visual Studio, but when I deploy it to RS (on Server 1) and
try to run it, I get the error:
"...Cannot create a connection to data source 'DevServer'.
(rsErrorOpeningConnection)
A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running.
Unable to read from the transport connection: An existing connection
was forcibly closed by the remote host."
I'm not doing anything complicated. It's just that the AS database is
on a different machine from the RS server. Shouldn't this work?
Ideas?

So my conclusion is that for a report that goes against an AS cube, RS
must be on the same machine as AS. But it would be great if I was
wrong.

I'm not a configuration wiz, but here are some things you could do until you
figure out how to get reporting services to correctly pass the user's
credentials to AS:
1) change the datasource in report manager for the OLAP conection to use a
domain user that has the necessary privileges on AS (preferrably a domain
account that's not an admin in AS).
Ideally, RS will pass the credentials of the user to AS during the
connection.
A good enterprise configuration for a smaller group could be to split sql
server, analysis services and reporting services across 3 boxes, preferrably
64bit.

problem with analysis server connection string

i have just installed a new version of analysis services 2000 on a test machine. when i try to connect to the local host i get the error "Datasource name is too long". I have set the datasource string to

Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\\serverName\MsOLAPRepository$\msmdrep.mdb

This is the same string as i have on other analysis servers, bar the server name, but it still does not work. any ideas?

The olap service is running correctly, just in case its a detail you need to know.

I assume you use Analysis Manager or DSO program to connect, and you change the "Repository Connection String" property from Analysis Manager. Can you check whether you can open msmdrep.mdb repository file from Access ? Or try to migrate repository to SQL Server - will you get the same error ?

Problem with a server broker conversation between two instances

I have a problem with a server broker conversation between two instances on the same machine.

I have used Server Listning Manager to setup the communication between the instances.

When i a try to send a dialog it stops in sys.transmissin_queue and transmission_status is "The Service Broker protocol transport cannot listen on port 4022 because it is in use by another process."

Are you trying to set up the communication between two instances on the same host? Then only one instance can listen on port 4022, the second instance must use a different port (say 4023). Use ALTER ENDPOINT to change the listenning port of one of the instances:

ALTER ENDPOINT [broker] AS TCP (LISTENER_PORT = 4023);

Now that you changed the listener port, you must also change the route used by the other instance to point to the new port (in the database where the service is):

ALTER ROUTE [routename] WITH ADDRESS = N'TCP://hostname:4023'

When I use xp_sendmail on my local machine, using parameters like
Exec master.dbo.xp_sendmail @.recipients = 'my email id' , @.message = '
some message', @.subject = ' some subject ', then it works fine and I get
the mail in my mailbox ...
But when I use the same stuff on any other SQL server (on same network), I
get the error --
xp_sendmail: Procedure expects parameter @.user, which was not supplied.
I've searched in BOL, there is no parameter called @.user for xp_sendmail.
What and where is the problem ?

Problem while exporting OLAP data to Excel

Hello all,

I have Analysis Services installed on one machine (dedicated server) .
Other machnines have OLAP application installed (Pivot Table is used).

When client machine tries to export olap data to excel , it takes a long time to load and sometimes it hangs.
Is it related to analysis server settings?

What version of Excel are you using? What version of Analysis Services? Are you trying to export an Office Web Component Pivot connected to Olap data to Excel? If so, what version is the Office Web Component Pivot?

problem while configuring RS using rsconfih utility.

i installed reporting services on the same machine where i insatalled SQl
server. i did some sample reports in visual studio.net 2003. initally when i
try to deploy it,iam getting 'cannot connect to http://localhost/report
server.' one more insteresting thing is when i browse to
http://localhost/reports or reportserver is an stating that ' connot find to
directory /not having permissions.' then i gave some permission set to both
these virtual directory.
and later i try to browse i got a different error --'The report server
cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the
database is required for all requests and processing.
(rsReportServerDatabaseUnavailable) Get Online Help Login failed for user
'MDPMS117591\ASPNET'.--'. then i tried to config using rsconfig utility
providing sql auth ,uid,pwd,dbname,sername.but when i execute rsconfig
command its giving an error that 'No Reporting Services instance found on
localhost.'. What to do Next i don't have any choice,can any one susject me
some thing.

You will need to reinstall reporting services. Ensure that after setup, the
reportserver service is running in the service control manager. Also ensure
you can access the report server on the virtual directory you specified
during setup,e.g. http://localhost/reportserver (default).

problem when using reporting service

Dear all,
i have installed reporting service a few days ago, but i encounter the
following problems,
my report server is in another machine(rather than localhost, like
most examples on the web), after teh installation, i have made rdl,
and deploy to the server, everything goes fine until i type
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/Reports to access the report. i can browse the
directories, but dead link shown once i click on teh report.
strange thing is when i type http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/ReportServer/, i
can see the report generated on teh screen. could anyone suggest ways
to solve it?
another problem is i tried to use render() to generate report in my
web site (that is localhost) using the server (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx), but
error keep sending to me ( The request failed with HTTP status 401:
Access Denied.
), i have added a web reference already, it wont work even i type
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/retest2/.... in the full path

Problem when accessing RS using fully qualified name or IP.

I am using Reporting Services 2000 running on Win2k3. I have admin rights
for this machine.
Everything works just great if I am accessing Reporting services in our
intranet using http://server1/reports or http://server1/reportserver
But, When I view reports using fully qualified name e.g.
http://server1.mydomain.com/reports after entering username/password it shows
first page and when I click on any report item I get "The page cannot be
displayed" in the bottom frame.
Weird thing is if I access reports using
http://server1.mydomain.com/reportserver (simple file browse view) instead
of http://server1.mydomain.com/reports everything works fine.
Here is what I have tried after reading several posts.
I edited RSWebApplication.config located at
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting Services\ReportManager\
Old setting:
<ReportServerUrl>http://server1/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl>
New Setting:
<ReportServerUrl>http://server1.mydomain.com/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl>
When I apply the above setting I get the following error on the very first

After reading MSDN I found that <ReportServerExternalUrl> tag must be added
to use FQDN so you can access RS over internet. Report manager will use this
URL to redirect to the report server.
Modify the RSWebApplication.Config file located under \ReportManager folder
as below
e.g.

<ReportServerUrl>http://server1/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl>
<ReportServerExternalUrl>http://server1.mydomain.com/ReportServer</ReportServerExternalUrl>
</UI>
Correction to MSDN statement.
====================MSDN has half way correct information. MSDN states <ReportServerURL> must be
added but it has to be <ReportServerUrl> instead <ReportServerURL> (Note:
XML is case sensitive).
If you enter <ReportServerURL> instead <ReportServerUrl> you will get the
following error.
"The configuration file contains an element that is not valid. The
ReportServerExternalURL element is not a configuration file element."

Problem viewing Reports from Network

We have a network of XP Machines.
When i try to view the reports in the application from the same
machine itself it's coming up properly,but when i try to acess the
reports in the application from another machine it's giving me the
following error,
?The permissions granted to user ?OLDSERVER\Guest' are insufficient
for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)
As a solution to the problem of permissions in the help it's mentioned
that we need to create roles in the SQL Server Report Manager for the
users whom we need to give access to the reports.When we are accessing
the reports from the network by default we are accessing the server as
guests who doesn't have much rights.So I have created role (Browser )
on SQL Server Report Manager for the guest user and tried accessing

Problem using SQL Debugger

Hello. I have only used the Debugger a few times, mostly from within VB. At a
client site, we had used the Debugger from an XP SP2 machine to a
WindowsServer 2000 machine with SQL Server 2000 (unknown service pack level)
without problem. It had not been used for several months, during which time
the server was replaced with a Windows 2003 Server, SQL Server 2000 (SP2+,
but unsure of actual SP level).
The problems? We can't install the VB software on the server to enable the
debugger. So we thought we'd just use the Query Analyzer debugger instead.
But when we try to run it, we get the error: "The debugger interface is not
installed. Please re-run setup and select 'add components to your existing
installation' ..". We did rerun setup (on both the client and server) but
when we ran it on the client it already clearly had the debugger interface
option installed. Verifying files on the server I found that I could not
register the file 'mssdi98.dll', it would error "the file was loaded but the
entry point was not found'". This file was then re-copied from the SQL Server
CD and tried again, same error.
Is there some known issue using the debugger when SQL Server is on a Windows
Server 2003 machine? This stored procedure is particularly nasty and we have
no chance of debugging it without this interface. Please advise.

Hello Brad,
mssdi98.dll is not a Activex control dll. Therefore, you could not regsiter
it by using regsvr32.
This issue can occur if SQLDebugger account does not have the porper
rights. Normally SQLDebugger has "Log on as a batch job" and "Deny logon
locally" user rights. Please run gpedit.msc and go to Computer
Configuration->Windows Settings->Security Settings->Local Policie->User
rights assignments to check if SQLDebugger account has the proper rights.

|||Hi Peter. Thank you for your reply. I checked the machine in question and I
do not see a "SQLDebugger" account. Would this account have been created
automatically during the install? Or do I need to create it manually? I will
review the article you mention but am surprised to find this so difficult to
set up. Perhaps this will be easier in SQL2005?
