Problem with aggregation...
1. with calculated cells on my cube. Bascially I have used a Time dimension
broken into year, week and days and a measure which is aggregated as
distinct count
Imagine for 2004, week 52, I have 7 days and the distinct count for all days
are 2, I am not able to see that the total distinct count for week 52 as 14
(7 *2), is there any way to do tat?
2. I also have a caculate measure which rely on the distinct count measure
to calcualte percentages, the returned values for the 7 days in week 52 is
correct, but it's summing up for the total in week 52 which it should be
actaully doing an average.
Can someone help me out with this or at least point out how to go about
doing this? ThanksHello all, I just found out that the 2nd problem is due to the first, but
I'm still trying to figure out how to do a aggregated distinct count value
for my cube. Just to make things clearer, here's an example
Distinct Count Measure
Week 1 Total 3 (<- I need this to be 13)
Days
1 2
2 2
3 1
4 1
5 1
6 3
7 3
I enabled drilldown for the cube and verified that the week1 total is really
a distinct count of 3 only... but what I am really trying to is to count
distinctly for days... but aggregate for Weeks and Years... Is there anyway
to achieve that?
Any form of advise is greatly appreciated... thanks in advance

If you use Calculated Member,
Dcount = IIF(Time.CurrentMember.Level.Name = "Day", [Distinct Count
Measure], Sum(Time.CurrentMember.Children, [Dcount]))
Or if you use Calculated Cell,
Calculation Subcube: {[Measures].[Distinct Count Measure]},
Descendants(Time.Year.Members, Week, SELF_AND_BEFORE)
Calculation Value: Sum(Time.CurrentMember.Children, [Distinct Count
Measure])
But this is the case when you consider only time dimension. I'm not sure you
have to consider more dimensions.

Problem with 2 Dataset Sharing Parameters
period of time (@.StartDate, @.EndDate). Optionally the report has option to
select a single user (@.UserName) or just all of them. There are 2 datasets.
First dataset: Bugs requires 3 parameters: @.StartDate, @.EndDate, @.UserName.
Second dataset: UserName. At first I have a query to list all users. Since
the list has hundreds of users while the result set from dataset Bugs mostly
has less than 10 users, I built another query to list only users having bugs
assigned from @.StartDate to @.EndDate. So it requires 2 parameters @.StartDate
and @.Enddate.
Now both datasets use @.StartDate and @.EndDate. The list to select for
@.UserName is produced after @.StartDate and @.EndDate are entered. I expected
the report to let me select the username after I enter @.StartDate and
@.EndDate. However in the preview tab right at the moment when I clicked on
the box for @.EndDate to enter a value the program hang up (VS 2003). I
uploaded it to a report server to see how it behaves then I got this error
after I click on the EndDate box: The value provided for the report
parameter 'EndDate' is not valid for its type.
(rsReportParameterTypeMismatch).
I don't know what's wrong. If I change the dataset UserName to list all
users (no parameter required) then the report runs fine. I use Visual
Studio .NET 2003 Service Pack 1, report server is SQL 2000 with latest SP on
the O/S, SQL, and SQL RS.
An thought?

The issue sounds kind of strange. Maybe you should check to make sure
that you have the correct @.EndDate mapping as part of the UserName
dataset (via the Data tab -> Edit Selected Dataset button [...] ->
Parameters tab). Also, make sure that the stored procedure/query that
sources the UserName dataset is not expecting a different data type
for @.EndDate (for whatever reason). Sorry I could not be of greater
assistance.

Sr. Software Consultant|||Thanks for the reply. I use datatime as data type for @.StartDate, @.EndDate
in both datasets. Double checked everything but still have no clue why.
When I learned and practiced SQL 2005 I had no problem doing similar thing.

Problem with "Point in time"- restore of database on new server
nonproduction sql server to a specific point in time. We use the following
type T-sql code:
RESTORE DATABASE XX
FROM DISK = 'F:\XX_Folder\XX'
WITH NORECOVERY,
MOVE 'XX_1_Data' TO 'F:\MSSQL\Data\XX_1.mdf',
MOVE 'XX_Data' TO 'F:\MSSQL\Data\XX.mdf',
MOVE 'XX_Log' TO 'F:\MSSQL\Data\XX_log.ldf',
REPLACE
RESTORE LOG XX_Log
FROM DISK = 'F:\XX_Folder\log'
WITH RECOVERY, STOPAT='2004-06-28 07:00:00'
We have tried this on two different servers with same OS / DB and
servicepacks (Sql SP3) as the production server.
We get this error:
Server: Msg 913, Level 16, State 8, Line 1
Could not find database ID 65535. Database may not be activated yet or may
be in transition.
Server: Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
RESTORE LOG is terminating abnormally.
We are NOT using linked servers on the production server. But both of the
servers we are restoring on previously had databases with the same name as
the one in the backup file (renaming it makes no difference either).
Does anyone have a solution / suggestion to the cause this problem.
Regards, and thank you in advance
Jan
Your RESTORE LOG statement needs to specify the database name your just
restored rather than the logical log file name. Try:
RESTORE LOG XX
FROM DISK = 'F:\XX_Folder\log'
WITH RECOVERY, STOPAT='2004-06-28 07:00:00'
Hope this helps.

Problem while updating data using SQLXML UpdateGrams
A long time I used SQLXML templates on serverside to get data for my application and update some records one by one.
But now I also need to update data of the whole dataset. So I want to use SQLXML UpdateGrams. (Or DataSet DiffGrams).
But My first attempt failed. I have troulble with identity field. No one solution from forums or articles worked for me . So I tried to implement some sample to post here. It uses Northwind database.
Sample should do 3 steps.
Load data - OK
Make some changes - OK
Save Changes.
But doing this sample I have event more troubles.
please help me. provide some sample or better show me fixes in my one. I tried to comment it and think it is rather simple. you can get it here http://rapidshare.de/files/26676262/SQLXML_Sample1.zip.html or here ftp://demon.selfip.com/SQLXML_Sample1.zip.
It is very urgent, so I'll wait for any replies.
Thanks.
-= Sergey =-
PS.: I'm using SQL Server 2005 to run samples. But productive server will be SQL Server 2000.
Thread is closed
I've found an error. I've copied sample xsd from the bad book
There was an error in schema uri
xmlns:sql="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:mapping-schema"
so SQLXML saw no mapping at all!
no everything is ok. Even identity inserts work properly.

Problem using SQL Server BI Development Studio
Hello
I'm using SQL Server BI Development Studio to create a mining structure to forecast time series analysis.
The process to create a model for time series has these steps:
Create a connection to the Database;
Create a source view. Create relationships between tables using the foreign keys;
Create the model with the mining structure. Define the fields that I won’t to predict and the algorithm properties aren’t changed.
Is something wrong in these steps, I missing something?
Other problem is the utilization of the model created earlier. In some tests that I made, the models don’t do forecasting upper then 20 steps. The problem could be the number of lines? But other data set with a large number of null values doesn’t have any problem predicting more than 20 steps using the time series algorithm.
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance.
Jo?o Santos
<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->
I don't think there is a problem. The nature of the time series algorithm we use - Auto Regression Trees with Cross Predict (ARTXP) - is that predictions in the future can become unstable, since predictions become dependent on predictions. When we detect this instability, we stop producing output - this behavior can not be changed.
The dataset with large numbers of nulls is using some sort of missing value substitution which actually smooths the series - although you will have to determine the accuracy (usually more data = better).
We are considering allowing users to control the "instability" threshold in future versions.
|||The time series algorithm has a mechanism for detecting instability in predictions and stops returning predicted values when the variance exceeds a certain threshold. The point at which this happens is data-dependent - this explains the behavior you're seeing.Monday, February 20, 2012
