Problem with backup and restore

When I am backuping and after restoring the DB on another server, all Users
of this DB can't connect to this DB. I am getting teh error "login failed
for user 'somebody' ".
In DB Folder Users , this user exist.

i installed sql server 2005 express on a windows xp prof. sp2 system.
i also installed the 2005 studio management tool.
I can connect to the sql server (sqlcmd -S), i can create a new database in
the 2005 studio management tool, but i can't attach a mdf file. I'm
administrator so have all rights. I have several mdf (and ldf) files on the
disc.
I did this:
rightclick on Databases, then Attach: i see right an empty windows with an
ADD button.
When i click on that button, i get the error:
c:\myapp\app_data\
cannot access the specified path or file. Verify that you have the necessary
privileges ...
If you know that the service account a specific file, type the path ...
The sevice account is NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService, but when i see the list
of the accounts, i can't find it into that list.
Any help would be appreciated.

I copied mydb.mdf and .ldf to the directory where i created a new database,

Yes, a Windows XP account or a domain account, whichever is appropriate
for your environment. You don't "link" this new user to NT
AUTHORITY\Network, you'll configure the SQL Server services to run as
the new user that you create. NT AUTHORITY\Network isn't a real user
account.
You could also configure the SQL Server services to run as "Local
System", which will give SQL system-level access to your machine.

i installed sql server 2005 express on a Windows XP prof. sp2 system.
i also installed the 2005 studio management tool.
I can connect to the sql server (sqlcmd -S), i can create a new database in
the 2005 studio management tool, but i can't attach a mdf file. I'm
administrator so have all rights. I have several mdf (and ldf) files on the
disc.

problem with analysis server connection string

i have just installed a new version of analysis services 2000 on a test machine. when i try to connect to the local host i get the error "Datasource name is too long". I have set the datasource string to

Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\\serverName\MsOLAPRepository$\msmdrep.mdb

This is the same string as i have on other analysis servers, bar the server name, but it still does not work. any ideas?

The olap service is running correctly, just in case its a detail you need to know.

I assume you use Analysis Manager or DSO program to connect, and you change the "Repository Connection String" property from Analysis Manager. Can you check whether you can open msmdrep.mdb repository file from Access ? Or try to migrate repository to SQL Server - will you get the same error ?

Just put a rule in your FW that permit any traffic from/to your SQL server on port 1433.

Problem when connecting from remote location to SQL Server 2k SP 3

This is when using SA account trying the SQL Query
Analyzer. I get the error Msg 17, Level 16, State 1. I
can locally connect fine on the server itself using SQL
Query Analyzer. I'm using SQL Authentication.
When trying to connect I get:
Unable to connect to server (name of server)
Server: Msg 17, Level 16, State 1
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB] SQL Server
does not exist or access denied.
I verified that the port is open on the firewall pointing
to the server. Also, this just started happening and was
working fine before. I've reset the SA password and
verified that I am putting in either the DNS entry or IP
address and get the same error. Any help diagnosing this
is greatly appreciated!

Try running the following command using ISQL.exe
ISQL -Stcp:ServerNameHere -Usa -Ppassword -Q"select @.@.version"
Look for the OS Error returned. This will help you troubleshoot the
problem.

The application could not work successfully under this
configuration.
It could not connect to the database.
I have started the SQL Server Browser service.
Why I could not connect to the database when i use SQL Native Client +
Named instance

Problem when connect to SQL Server 2005 (SQL Native Client + Named instance)

Hi,
I have an application which previous connect to SQL Server 2000.
Now, I installed SQL Server 2005, and try to conncet to it.
The previous connection string is:
sString.Format("DSN=%s;uid=%s;pwd=%s", sDb, sUser, sPassword);
In order to support SQL Native Client driver in SQL Server 2005, I
changed the connection string to:
sString.Format("Provider=SQLNCLI;
DataTypeCompatibility=80;DSN=%s;uid=%s;p
wd=%s", sDb, sUser,
sPassword);
I have a default instance and a named instance in my database. So i
created two DSN:
(1) Use SQL Native Client as the driver and connect to the default
instance.
The application could work well under this configuration.
(2) Use SQL Native Client as the driver and connect to the named
instance.
The application could not work successfully under this
configuration.
It could not connect to the database.
I have started the SQL Server Browser service.
Why I could not connect to the database when i use SQL Native Client +
Named instance
Who can help me?
Thanks in advance.Did you enable the Allow Remote Connections option? Have you run the
Surface Area Configurator and the SQL Server Configuration Manager?

Problem using SQL Server Mobile 2005 with WM5 and Windows Vista

I have a problem using Remote Data Access (RDA) to connect SQL Server Mobile 3.0 and SQL Server Express 2005 in windows Vista. The problem is that I can't install SQL Server Windows Moble 3.0 because i get a message that no replication componets have been istalled. I thought that installing SQL Server Mobile would do that. Any ideas?

You need to install the SQL Server replication components as indicated. See this page for detailed instructions:

This issue occurs even if the SQL Server replication components are present. When you run the Sqlce30setupen.msi file, you receive a message that asks you to use elevated privileges. However, even after you click Yes in the message, you still experience this issue.

Workaround for issue 2

Open a Command Prompt window that has elevated privileges, and then run the Sqlce30setupen.msi file.

Problem using Client Tools to Remotely Connect to a SQL Server Instance on Anoth

Someone please help me before I loose all of my hair :mad: !!!

I have two machines, a Windows Server 2003 machine running an SQL Server Standard Edition database instance and client tools (Enterprize Manager etc.), and a workstation PC running Windows XP SP2 which has just the SQL Server client tools (not an actual DB instance).

I'm trying to use the Enterprize Manager client tool on my WinXP machine to remotely connect to the server instance on the server PC (via 'New SQL Server Registration' option). Everytime I do this I get the following error message:

Login failed for user 'sa'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server Connection.

Now I've tried using different usernames and passwords. I have login details for my SQL Server set to use Windows Login rather then SQL Server login, so I tried remotely connecting with the username and password for the server PC, tried 'sa' with server password, even tried setting up a new user on the server and logging in from the client with that, no luck. I've opened up correct ports 1433 on both PCs, even disabled the windows firewalls algother. Both server and client have SP3a installed, WinServer2003 has SP1 and XP SP2.

So I'm at a loss to how to remotely connect to my SQL Server. FYI I know the server itself is working fine because I can connect to it using Enterprize Manager/Query Analyser on the local machine. Any ideas? Many thanks for your help!If the client and the server are on the same domain, or if the client account belongs to the tree where domain belongs to, then you can use Windows authentication. But if you already tried this, can you do a TELNET from the client with 1433 successfully?|||I've not setup a Domain Controller. Anyway I've solved it, I had SQL Server running in Windows Authentification Mode, so I switched to mixed mode and all is well now :)
